I Canclled 'moment by cookpad' AI Cooking Coaching
Table of Contents
I have cancelled my subscription to moment, which I reviewed in July 2025. I would like to look back on my experience so far.
Reasons for Cancellation
I cancelled primarily for the following reasons:
- I understood the common logic for cooking deliciously and became able to apply it (Graduation)
- As my skills improved, the necessity of AI coaching gradually decreased
- In that context, there were times when I questioned the quality of the AI’s feedback
- The need to cook the same assignment dish three times in a row creates a cost in terms of gaining understanding from partners or those around me
The biggest reason is that I successfully improved my cooking skills. I decided to cancel because I gained the confidence to enjoy cooking without AI coaching as an individual. This is a “graduation” precisely because I felt tangible effects, and I would definitely recommend AI coaching to those who feel lost or unclear about their cooking.
In the latter half, I was using it in an advanced way by deciding the direction of the recipe myself and having the AI generate it. This was very good training because I had to use my own head. However, while it requires skill on the user’s part, I also felt there was still room for improvement in the quality of recipes and feedback.
I also felt there were challenges with the accuracy of the AI’s feedback. For example, with Peperoncino, despite adding olive oil at the finish, I received feedback based on the premise that I “had not added it”. Since the process of “making it three times in a row to complete it” is important in moment, if an incorrect judgment is made in one of those times, it feels like I lost one out of three opportunities (about 33%).
In addition, the system of repeating the same dish three times in a short period incurs a cost of gaining understanding when adjusting meal menus if you live with someone. Considering all of these things, I reached the decision to cancel because I had obtained tangible effects and the necessity of AI coaching had relatively decreased through the improvement of my skills.
Overall Satisfaction
My skills definitely improved. Also, the staff were kind and sincere, and it was a service where I felt warmth even though it wasn’t an in-person cooking class. As a result, I acquired skills, so my satisfaction is high, and I feel I got proper value for the price.
In cooking, I was able to learn “logic to make things delicious” such as:
- How to heat meats deliciously
- The mindset of bringing out the potential of ingredients in dishes like Peperoncino, Mapo Tofu, and Meat and Potato Stew (Nikujaga)
- How to bring out umami and aroma using the Maillard reaction through heating onions, tomatoes, and minced meat
These have high versatility, and I am now able to apply the thinking to other dishes I haven’t directly learned to make a satisfying plate.
I feel there is room for growth in the AI’s feedback, but both the AI and the service are growing. As I felt when I was interviewed by moment, the developers’ understanding of the process, knowledge, and passion for the service are genuine. I think it will continue to improve and the number of supported dishes will increase.
The ability to receive professional-level reviews at your own timing using your own home kitchen and cooking utensils is a huge attraction. It is a service I would definitely recommend to those interested in improving their cooking skills.
Summary
I have cancelled moment, but my satisfaction is high, and daily cooking has become fun. Eating continues as long as we live. I want to use my experience with moment as a foundation to continue enjoying cooking and eating in the future.
